Things to do in Narrandera
There are many top attractions found in the Riverina and especially around Narrandera: the town of the Big Country Hoedown. How about starting your day before or after the competition with a wander around the Lake Talbot Swimming Park. There are walking tracks, swimming areas and also great accommodation.

Another area that we love to take walks along is the Murrumbidgee River. Would you like to spot Koala in the wild? Well, head towards the Narrandera Flora and Fauna Reserve or any other access point along the river. Pick up a map from the Narrandera Visitor Information Centre in Cadell Street Narrandera and check out parks and walking tracks. The Centre staff are very helpful and can supply you with information and maps. You’ll be surprised how many Koala can be seen sitting in forks of branches or walking along the branches of the River Gums or even walking along the ground to find new feed trees. Good spotting ability is needed, even on the ground. Still, you will need a lot of patience as Koala are very difficult to locate. However, the joy of spotting your first animal in the wild is tremendous.

Bird life around the Riverina is amazing. Remember to bring your Bird Identification books in your luggage if birdwatching is your thing. All sorts are to be found in these areas. Ground dwellers, birds of the open forests, the open fields, and of the rivers. Parrots, pigeons, cockatoos, nocturnal birds, you name them a group and more than likely they are represented.

Another point of interest is the Narrandera Water Tower. The art on the tower will leave you speechless. Koala and lizard are the main themes, and much easier to spot than in the wild. The art is described well on the posters in front of the towers. It’s also a great place to look over the town.

Other places to check out are the Tiger Moth Memorial Museum; The Royal Doultan Hankinson Memorial Fountain; Narrandera Adventura Playground; Lincoln’s Oakbank Brewery Building and John O’Brien Heritage Museum. Further information can be obtained from the Information Centre. The contact number is 02 69595545.
